The Messenger – CPSA

As Alberta’s medical regulator, CPSA’s role is to protect the public, ensuring all patients receive safe, high-quality health care. By this standard, CPSA has a responsibility to not only acknowledge health inequities faced by First Nations, Métis and Inuit patients, but to use our legislated mandate, in partnership with Indigenous communities, to improve the quality of care provided by our regulated members.

In honour of National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous People’s Day on June 21, 2025, this month’s Messenger connects First Nations, Métis and Inuit culture, partnerships, innovation and strength back to quality health care and improved health outcomes for Indigenous patients.

Recognizing our organization’s colonial roots and limited lived experience in this space, we felt it was important to seek out diverse perspectives. As such, we have opened our platform to host the words of health leaders, subject matter experts and those with lived experience from across Treaties 6, 7 and 8, and beyond. We acknowledge that the articles may not represent every person’s experience. Even so, we hope reading with an open mind and a compassionate heart may help us better understand and care for one another.
