This month marks 10 years since the conclusion of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada, which shed light on the devastating harms of residential schools and their impact on First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples.
The TRC heard testimony from more than 6,500 residential school survivors. Their experiences informed 94 Calls to Action — seven related to health care.
The Canadian Medical Association’s (CMA’s) own work to advance reconciliation is guided by the TRC’s work. Earlier this week, CMA Indigenous Advisor in Residence and former president Dr. Alika Lafontaine moderated a virtual discussion on what has changed in the past decade — and the important work still to come.
