May 6, 2026

Pikwakanagan – Seventeen months after former MPP John Yakabuski announced $3.9 million in funding for the development of a brand-new health centre at the Pikwakanagan First Nation, his successor, Billy Denault, was back in the community Thursday with another big announcement.

MPP Denault was joined by the First Nation council, administration and staff from the health department, for the announcement of just over $1 million in annual funding for the department. He said the province was investing $1,049,500 in primary care through a partnership with the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan Indigenous Primary Care Healthcare Organization.

“This investment will connect 861 more people in this community to primary care, ensuring more families can access care close to home when they need it most,” he said. “It represents a meaningful investment in our First Nation partners and the health and well-being of this community.”
