Lambton IODE chapters supporting northern Indigenous community – The Sarnia Observer

A few times a year, members from three local IODE chapters pack boxes of clothing for a northern Ontario First Nation.

“I doubt a lot of people know this is one of the things we do,” said Gloria Saunders, with IODE’s Margaret Stokes chapter in Petrolia, of the community chapter connections program.

Nine northern Indigenous communities receive winter wear, clothing and footwear through the provincial program started in 1938, IODE Ontario says.

Thirty-some Ontario IODE chapters contribute, and a handful each take care of distribution for each of the Indigenous communities, said Saunders, who’s also IODE Ontario’s services officer.
