Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) was proud to take part in the annual Six Nations health symposium this May. It’s an important initiative designed to inspire young people to explore careers in health care and envision themselves in these roles.
The event was organized by Haudenosaunee Health Services co-founders Michelle Jonathan, a nuclear medicine technologist, and Colleen Montour, an X-ray, CT and MRI technologist, as well as Amber Skye, Associate Dean Health Services, Six Nations Polytechnic, and Six Nations Department of Well-being.
The event brought together health-care professionals, educators, and nearly 400 students from Grades 5 to 8, along with some high school students. The Ohahodoni: “Creating a Path” Health Symposium is part of a larger effort to provide students with early exposure to career options in health care, and to help spark interest in science, medicine and community health.
