Grant to Help Local Indigenous Families Deal with Trauma – AM800

An Ontario grant is helping Indigenous families in Windsor-Essex.

The $75,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will strengthen the collaboration between the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society and the Can Am Indian Friendship Centre.

The funding is designed to decrease trauma experienced by Indigenous families dealing with the child welfare system.

It will also promote the reunification of Indigenous families.

Windsor West New Democrat MPP Lisa Gretzky says it is an ‘essential step toward improving outcomes for Indigenous families under stress.’

Executive Director of the CAS, Derrick Drouillard says it is committed to ‘righting the wrongs of the past as well as respecting and honouring the culture and identity of Indigenous families.’
