Retired National Hockey League star and mental health advocate Theo Fleury will be speaking at Blyth Memorial Community Hall on Sept. 16 as part of the Blyth Festival Deeper Root series.
The out-spoken Fleury is best known for his hockey career, but in recent years has spoken publically about his off-rink struggles with abuse and addictive and self-destructive behaviours.
Known today as an advocate for mental health issues, Fleury is the author of Playing With Fire and Conversations With A Rattlesnake.
He has been awarded the Canadian Humanitarian Award and the Queen’s Jubilee Medallion. He is also a Siksika Nation honorary chief and recipient of the Aboriginal Indspire Award.
