Mayor Steve Fairbairn says new team of staff will remove caseload burden from primary care physicians
Elkford’s new Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) officially opened on May 21, and mayor Steve Fairbairn remains optimistic the facility will fill gaps in pre-existing services and reduce the caseload for local doctors.
The UPCC is located in the Elkford Health Centre at 212 Alpine Way and replaces the facility’s former Emergency Centre, which was closed for many years due to difficulties in sourcing physicians and staff.
The facility is open seven days per week, offering urgent and same-day primary care appointments, both virtual and in-person. It will accommodate a range of health services including physical conditions like movement-limiting injuries; illnesses resulting in minor fever, infections, upset stomach and sore throat; mental health issues like short-term anxiety and mild to moderate depression; and wound care including suture removal, and checks and dressings.
