The province says it’s committed to ensuring Indigenous communities have adequate support

The Dene Tha’ First Nation has declared a state of local emergency as a result of what its chief calls an escalating mental health and addictions crisis.

The declaration was called over the weekend following a vote by the chief and council.

In a statement, Chief Wilfred Hooka-Nooza said the declaration is a “call for immediate help, partnership, and action” from both the federal and provincial governments.
