Indigenous physician, researcher and advocate Dr. Barry Lavallee has died unexpectedly.
In an online statement, Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin Inc., said Lavallee, who was the health organization’s CEO, will be greatly missed.
“His powerful voice commanded attention. He spoke up for those who could not and left an impact that will be remembered,” the statement said.
“He was a fearless advocate for those who faced injustice and harm, and he fought tirelessly for First Nations People.”
Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) also offered its condolences, describing Lavallee as a visionary leader who supported First Nations people in the north.
