YZF partners with Not In My City to raise awareness of human trafficking

Press Release

July 31, 2025

Yellowknife Airport (YZF) is proud to announce a new partnership with Not In My City, a Canadian movement dedicated to ending human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

What this means:

  • YZF joins a growing network of airports across the country that are helping raise awareness, increase vigilance, and support survivors.
  • Staff at YZF have received specialized training to recognize and respond to signs of trafficking. More training to additional staff is ongoing.
  • Passengers will notice awareness campaigns throughout the airport encouraging everyone to be informed and empowered.

Human trafficking thrives in silence, but together, we can be part of the solution. By partnering with Not In My City, YZF is reaffirming its commitment to safety, compassion, and community responsibility.

Look for the Yellow Rose: a symbol of Not In My City, a sign of support, and a statement that you stand in solidarity with trafficking survivors. You’ll see it featured at key points throughout the airport.

Visit www.notinmycity.ca to learn about how you get involved and can support the movement, and follow YZF’s channels for updates on how the partnership continues to grow.

Together, we’re saying: exploitation has no place here—not in our city, not in our airport.

Quotes

“Human trafficking is a crime that hides in plain sight, and it takes all of us – governments, communities, and individuals –to stand up and say enough is enough. Through this partnership with Not In My City, the Yellowknife Airport is sending a clear message: exploitation will not be tolerated here. I commend YZF staff for their leadership, their commitment to awareness and training, and for helping create a safer and more compassionate space for all travellers.”

  • Vince McKay, Minister of Infrastructure

“Airports are becoming strong allies in the fight against human trafficking. With more and more airports joining this movement, we’re seeing a growing commitment across the country to protect those at risk and raise public awareness. Yellowknife Airport’s partnership builds on this momentum, demonstrating the critical role transportation hubs can play in disrupting trafficking and standing up for those whose safety is at risk.”
