YT Government: Canadian Index of Wellbeing public engagement underway

A comprehensive baseline study of wellbeing in Yukon is being undertaken by the Government of Yukon in partnership with the Canadian Index of Wellbeing.

The project will begin with a two-month public engagement that invites Yukoners to contribute their ideas for measuring what matters and how to define what progress looks like in the territory. The overall aim is to develop measures to track and promote progress towards improving the quality of life for all Yukoners.

Individuals can help select and prioritize wellbeing indicators for Yukon from now until the end of June at

In addition, municipal governments, First Nations governments, community and non-governmental organizations are invited to a Yukon-specific indicator workshop on May 14 in Whitehorse. The event will include presentations and discussions with the University of Waterloo’s Canadian Index of Wellbeing and the Government of Canada’s Sustainable Development and Strategic Partnerships funding program.

We need measures in Yukon that go beyond gross domestic product and other conventional economic indicators and that speak to what truly creates the quality of life all Yukoners deserve. I am excited to be partnering with the Canadian Index of Wellbeing to develop Yukon-specific wellness indicators and I encourage all Yukoners to take part in this process.
