—Promoting youth awareness for cancer that plagues First Nations People—
Six Nations—Concert for a cure is an annual festival providing our community the opportunity to learn about cancer and how to alter your lifestyle to reduce the risk of contracting it. Concert For A Cure, on September 27th 2008.Concert for a Cure is a music-based, family fun day to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. A group of youth from Six Nations, Brantford and Hamilton have come together and joined with the Society to bring cancer awareness to the surface in this aboriginal community. The event is focused on youth and children to give them the knowledge they need to make good, healthy choices for optimum prevention. Adults will be surely entertained as well!! With 16 performers you are sure to hear music you love. There will be food and fun for the entire family to enjoy.
A little about the event…
Turbo Turtle Race in the Grand River – purchase a turtle to race on the day of the event and win $1000.00 if your turtle crosses the finish line first!

Hair Cutting Station – donators will have 10 inches of hair cut off and receive a hip styling afterwards by proffessional hair stylists from Vivid Hair Studio.
Kidz Zone – activities for children 12 & under that incorporate and teach cancer cause & effect awareness and many FUNNN activities such as BALLOON DARTS and FISHING POND
Raffles – have a chance to win great prizes like attraction passes and days at the spa just to name a few
Susan Aglukark along with 16 other artists from Hamilton, Toronto and Six Nations are donating their time for the cause.

“I want to make sure that all the kids get a chance to know what it feels like to actually be apart of something very positive that benefits not only our community but surrounding communities as well. I have asked the Canadian Cancer Society to consider using the money raised to help First Nations people,” said Faith Martin, representative.” This is the very first of whats going to become the largest event in Canada to raise monies and awareness for too long overlooked problems concerning us.”
Faith is a young student who is very passionate about what she is doing. She has come very far with little help to get a line up of 11 plus local bands to perform and .vendors to come and help.
Generously supporting her initiative, Canadian Cancer Society and the Six Nations Council have given her full support. The Six Nations Council has donated the venue costs and Canadian Cancer Society has allowed her to use their logo and information where it is needed.

Concert For A Cure is a joint initiative of the Six Nations Council, the Six Nations Miles To Go Hospice Fund and Canadian Cancer Society, designed to ensure the future of cancer research. The program receives support from Bank of Montreal, Iroquios Mixed Martial Arts, Fortinos, Costco as well as community support from Binbrook, Six Nations and Hamilton.
Concert For A Cure Quick Facts:
– Six nations has about 20,000 residents and expected attendance is to be in the thousands.
– This is the very first of an annual event collecting donations for different causes each year.
– There are eleven confirmed bands in the performance schedule.
– There will be vendors and games for children.
– All the information that can be obtained from the Canadian Cancer Society will distributed as the donations are accepted.
