The federal government is expected to announce today that fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents crossing the border into Canada will not have to self-isolate for 14 days as long as they test negative for COVID-19, CBC News has learned.

It’s part of a multi-step plan to lift border restrictions that will be discussed at a news conference at noon ET.

Public Health Ontario is reporting just one new COVID-19 case in Ottawa on Wednesday. The provincial health agency and Ottawa Public Health (OPH) report case numbers differently, but OPH hasn’t reported a daily case count in the single digits since August 2020.
