Ottawa’s mayor joined local business owners in welcoming Monday’s announcement that Ontario will move into the first phase of its reopening plan on Friday, but said he wishes it had come sooner.
Residents who became eligible to rebook their appointments for a second COVID-19 vaccination Monday ran into more problems with the provincial system. That prompted Mayor Jim Watson to call for more vaccine doses — but other regions are making the same request of the province.
How many cases are there?
The region is coming down from a record-breaking third wave, one that has included more dangerous coronavirus variants.
As of Monday, 27,320 Ottawa residents had tested positive for COVID-19. The city has 491 known active cases, dipping below 500 for the first time since November. So far, 26,247 cases have been resolved and there have been 582 deaths.
