Key updates on COVID-19 in the region

Third doses of a COVID-19 vaccine are now rolling out across the region for young people aged 12 to 17, as long as six months have passed since their second dose.

“The higher the number of people vaccinated with the third dose, the better we will be able to move forward with removing pandemic restrictions successfully,” said Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, medical officer of health for the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU), in a statement yesterday.

Both the EOHU and Ottawa Public Health have said appointments can be booked as of today.

Ontario will require school boards to offer virtual learning as an option for one more school year.

Government officials say they are making investments to make schools safe for in-person learning, but given the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, they want to offer parents one more year of choice.
