Calls for mask rules in schools, delays to return-to-work plans
Apr 11, 2022
COVID-19 is surging as part of a sixth wave in Ontario and Quebec.
If you look at coronavirus in wastewater as a sign of COVID’s spread, eastern Ontario leads that province. Ottawa and parts of the Kingston area have recently set records. The situation is worsening in the Outaouais.
This puts vulnerable people, including children, at higher risk of serious health problems and is causing some staff shortages. Hospitalizations and deaths, which have traditionally lagged behind spread, have not yet spiked and it’s not clear if or how much they will.
Public Health Ontario wants a return to indoor mask rules as part of a response. Quebec has delayed mask changes until at least the end of the month.
A trustee with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board plans to bring forward a motion tomorrow to reintroduce masking in all of its buildings until the city’s public health unit explicitly advises otherwise.
All Quebecers in their 60s can get fourth COVID-19 vaccine doses as of today.
