There are approximately 130 homes in the community that still need to be hooked up to the new system

“Water is life. In August, I turned on the water at home for the first time in 31 years, knowing that I could drink my water and be safe.”

Hiawatha First Nation Chief Laurie Carr’s words, evoking a sense of hope and achievement after fighting for years to bring safe, clean drinking water to the community, opened up a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday that officially marked the establishment of a new, state-of-the-art water treatment facility, located at 717 Hiawatha Line.
