Wasauksing First Nation has a new fire chief and he’s looking for volunteer firefighters.
Tyler Olmstead has joined the fire department with over a decade of experience in emergency services, ranging from volunteer firefighting to a career as an industrial firefighter in Alberta’s oilfields, battling wildfires that spread through the west coast in 2016 and various positions in paramedicine.
“I’m not exactly fresh to the scene, but I’m a new guy around here,” said Olmstead.
The biggest task in his new role is tackling recruitment and retention.
“If I can get upwards of another seven or eight applicants that would be great,” said Olmstead.
