WAHA: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Recently the federal government designated September 30 as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation for federally regulated workplaces. While we are not a federally-regulated workplace, in respect for the survivors and in honour of those who did not come home from residential school, WAHA will be designating September 30 as a statutory holiday for all employees.

During this time as we reflect, please reach out if you or someone you know is in need of support and assistance. Our Homewood Employee and Family Assistance Program provides immediate crisis support which can be at 1-800-663-1142. As well, the program offers:

• First Call Care – an immediate transfer to a clinician trained in risk assessment, safety planning for those who need immediate support, but are not necessarily in crisis
• EFAP Counselling – all callers can request a counsellor with clinical experience related to a variety of specialities, including Indigenous Cultural issues, the Residential School System and/or Racism.
• Trauma Care – longer-term Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for more intensive trauma/PTSD symptoms.

In addition to this service, there is also the WAHA Community Mental Health and Addictions Program that can be accessed by calling 705-336-2164, as well as Nan’s Mental Health and Addiction’s Line (NAN HOPE) at 1-844-NAN-HOPE.
