WHITEHORSE – The City of Whitehorse and Kwanlin Dün First Nation governments will jointly host a Vulnerable People at Risk Forum on Friday, April 24.
“This idea was discussed by City and Kwanlin Dün Councils at our intergovernmental forum. Our governments are continuing to collaborate on a number of initiatives, including transit and other services for citizens, and community safety and wellness,” said Mayor Dan Curtis.
“This forum is about how we can come together as a community to help vulnerable people throughout Whitehorse and along the Waterfront. The City and Kwanlin Dün want to create a better community for all members, especially those most vulnerable,” said Chief Doris Bill.
Governments, organizations, stakeholders, the public and vulnerable people in our community are invited to bring their expertise, ideas, insights and recommendations to discuss, support and find solutions to improve the lives of vulnerable people at risk in our community.
This event will be held from 8:30am to 4:30pm on Friday, April 24 at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre Long House. Lunch will be provided. An agenda will be shared in the upcoming weeks. Please RSVP to Dinah Laing at dinah.laing@whitehorse.ca or 668-8626.
The forum will feature keynote speaker Dr. Gabor Maté, author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, a best-selling book that draws on cutting-edge science to illuminate where and how addictions originate, and calls for a more compassionate approach toward the addict.
