Residents of Inuvik are being told to boil all of their drinking water for at least one minute.
The Chief Environmental Health Officer issued an advisory late on Thursday afternoon, blaming higher-than-usual water levels in the river for muddying the water and affecting its quality.
The advisory says boiling water is simply a precautionary measure, and no residents have yet been taken ill as a result of drinking the water.
“The Chief Environmental Health Officer, in collaboration with the Town of Inuvik, will continue to monitor the situation and provide an update when the advisory is lifted,” the advisory read.
