The All Nations Hospital project team expects to have determined the three candidate sites selected for the new district hospital by the end of the summer.
The president and CEO for the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, who is also part of the All Nations Hospital project team, hopes to have the site selection process down to three possible locations by the end of July or early August. This would be followed by a more formal submission to governments.
Racette was answering questions during a public forum last night, and he is hoping to have funding contributions from the federal and provincial governments, along with the community through the hospital’s foundation.
Planners expect the new district hospital in Kenora will be larger than the current building with more beds available for patients. The current building has 74 acute care beds, but Racette notes not all are available at times, due to communicable diseases such as COVID-19, influenza or C. difficile.
