Holistic Emergency Preparedness & Response hosted on November 1 and 2 an emergency-management seminar, so the Nacho Nyak Dun First Nation and Village of Mayo complete a joint emergency plan for Mayo’s top disasters.
“Fort McMurray easily evacuated 80 thousand people,” emergency response specialist and educator, Andy Ackerman said, “while Yellowknife struggled because Fort McMurray created an emergency management plan while Yellowknife created none.”
The seminar teaches emergency management through five modules before it instructs participants to role-play their emergency plan for Mayo’s top disasters.
The seminar runs January 17 to 19 and March 5 to 7 and explicates the,
-command module on January 17
-planning module on January 18
-operations module on January 19
-logistics module on March 5
-finance and administration module on March 6
-and the role-play of the emergency plan for Mayo on March 7
Andy Ackerman worked 10 years as a regional manager for the British Columbia ministry of environment and 16 years as an emergency-management and governance consultant.
