Youth in care comic book
We are focus group testing our new story on youth in care. As you may know, we create little animated shorts of the rough pencil sketches to test the draft stories with youth and health professionals. We solicit feedback, make the appropriate changes to the story and illustrations, and in the process create a relatable and authentic resource for youth. Please check out our YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/HealthyAboriginal to find the proposed story. We already know that there are several changes required, such as the social worker’s involvement when the child is taken into custody and not glorifying the city as a foster placement. But we sure could use your help in making the story even better. Please send your comments, freestyle, to sean[at]thehealthyaboriginal.net If we could receive your comments before December, that would be great.

CASP award
We are honored to have received the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention’s Presidential Certificate at this year’s conference. Thank you so much to Marion Cooper and the CASP Board for their support.

Child mental health comic book
We’ve still got copies of Just a Story in stock. If you’re interested in seeing a preview, please send an email to sean[at]thehealthyaboriginal.net and I’ll send you a low res pdf. The comic book can be ordered through me as well. The old focus group short is still up on our YouTube channel.

Suicide prevention comic books
We have copies of Darkness Calls in French for sale. They cost $3.25 each including shipping. Darkness Calls in English is sold out, though we may reprint it early next year. I’ll let you know. Check out Darkness Calls in Gitxsan on our YouTube channel. A very exciting project we created last year with the youth suicide prevention team of the Gitksan Wet’suwet’en Education Society up in Hazelton, BC.

And lastly, our website is still really awful. But to add insult to injury, now the comic books listed are all sold out. We’re working on changing that. In the meantime, pricing is still good and can be found at www.thehealthyaboriginal.net We appreciate your support.
