Ottawa leaning toward ending pandemic border measures soon, sources say

The federal government’s pandemic border measures — including random testing for vaccinated travellers — could be coming to an end soon. It might not be soon enough for many travellers and tourism operators.

While Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said Wednesday that no final decision has been made, sources have told CBC News that the government is likely to end all of the measures shortly, pending approval from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The measures were set to expire on Sept. 30.

“We’re constantly assessing the situation and making decisions based on the information,” said Alghabra on his way into a Liberal caucus meeting.

Cathy Pudlewski said she had such a terrible experience after being tapped for a random test that she could only compare it to “being almost harassed.”
