Canada’s balance of international payments, third quarter 2023
Canada’s current account deficit (on a seasonally adjusted basis) narrowed to $3.2 billion in the third quarter after recording larger deficits in the first two quarters of 2023. In the financial account, inflows of funds from abroad to finance the current account deficit mainly came from transactions in the form of loans as well as currency and deposits.
Updating of the Market Basket Measure thresholds table to include the Nunavut thresholds
Today, Statistics Canada is updating the Market Basket Measure (MBM) thresholds table to include poverty thresholds for Nunavut. This update marks the end of the review period for the proposed methodology for the Northern Market Basket Measure (MBM-N) for Nunavut. Medical assistance in dying, 2022
New data on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) is now available through Statistics Canada’s Research Data Centres (RDCs). Health Canada, the federal department responsible for the monitoring of MAID, has published detailed findings in their Fourth Annual Report on Medical Assistance in Dying, 2022.
Poultry and egg statistics, November 2023
Data on stocks of frozen eggs and poultry meats, as well as edible dried egg products, are now available for November 2023. Data on the placements of hatchery chicks and turkey poults are available for October 2023, and data on egg production are available for September 2023.
Conceptualizing Canada’s Care Economy
Today, Statistics Canada is releasing a reference report entitled “Canada’s Care Economy: A Conceptual Framework.” This report presents a conceptual framework to both understand and define the care economy in the Canadian context, as well as provide proposed definitions for key related concepts. The framework is based on the results of a literature review of Canadian and international research, as well as consultations with stakeholders internal and external to Statistics Canada.
