Health Reports: Analysis of trends in the prevalence of cannabis use in Canada, 1985 to 2015
A new study released today in Health Reports examines the long-term trends in the use of cannabis in Canada for the first time by comparing nine national surveys of the household population that collected information about cannabis use from 1985 to 2015.
Investment in new housing construction, December 2017
New housing construction investment totalled $4.7 billion in December, up 10.0% compared with December 2016. Investment in new housing construction rose in eight provinces, led by Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia.
Quarterly civil aviation statistics, third quarter 2017
Total operating revenue for the 26 largest Canadian air carriers increased 10.0% from the third quarter of 2016 to $7.2 billion in the third quarter. Total operating expenses grew 8.4% to $5.8 billion.
Food services and drinking places, December 2017
Sales in the food services and drinking places subsector rose 0.8% to $5.9 billion in December. Prices for food purchased from restaurants were up 2.9% in the 12 months to December, while prices for alcoholic beverages rose 1.4%.
Travel Survey of Residents of Canada, third quarter 2017
In the third quarter, the number of domestic trips increased 3.8% from the same quarter in 2016, to 103.7 million. Total expenditures for those trips increased 5.5% to $19.1 billion.

This month’s issue of Canadian Megatrends, “The evolution of language populations in Canada, by mother tongue, from 1901 to 2016,” examines the makeup of the country’s population by mother tongue, which has undergone significant change since 1901. In the early 1900s, nearly 90% of the Canadian population spoke either French or English as their mother tongue. The remainder had either an Aboriginal or immigrant language as their mother tongue.
