Consumer Price Index, March 2021 (final)
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.2% on a year-over-year basis in March, up from a 1.1% gain in February. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.1% in March.

The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index (2007=100) is now available for the fourth quarter.
Control and sale of alcoholic beverages, year ending March 31, 2020
Canadians over the legal drinking age bought the equivalent of 9.5 standard alcoholic beverages a week in 2019/2020, totalling 3,084 million litres. This was down 0.3% from a year earlier and is the first decrease in volume in six years.

By late 2020, one in five Canadians (20%) reported having used cannabis in the past three months, which was more than both the 14% reporting use before legalization and the 18% reporting use in the first few months after enactment of the Cannabis Act (October 2018). Daily or almost daily use also increased to 7.9% from 6.1% in 2019 and 5.4% in 2018.
