Investment in building construction, July 2022
Investment in building construction continued its upward trend since October 2021, rising 0.8% to $21.0 billion in July. Both the residential (+1.0% to $15.7 billion) and the non-residential sectors (+0.1% to $5.3 billion) showed increases.
Digital technology and Internet use, 2021
Canadian businesses grossed $398 billion in e-commerce sales in 2021. The wholesale trade, transportation and warehousing, and manufacturing sectors were the largest contributors to total Canadian e-commerce sales.
Canadian Tourism Activity Tracker, June 2022
In June, overall tourism activity in Canada was 17.2% below the level reached in June 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. With the exception of a temporary pause in January 2022 due to the Omicron variant, tourism activity has steadily recovered each month since May 2021.
Nursing and Residential Care Facility Survey, 2021
In 2021, the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic—marked by several variants of concern, such as Delta and Omicron—nursing homes (also called long-term care homes) and seniors’ homes (also called retirement homes or assisted living facilities) continued to report COVID-19 cases across Canada. These facilities are not only places of care, they are the living spaces of many vulnerable Canadians. Since the start of the pandemic, COVID-19 has had a disproportionate impact on these homes and their residents.
