Leading indicator of international arrivals to Canada, October 2023

In October 2023, the number of international arrivals to Canada, including non-resident trips and returning Canadian-resident trips, increased from October 2022. The recovery rates for most indicators were up from October 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amusement and recreation industry, 2022

In 2022, Canadians were once again able to enjoy a variety of activities that were off-limits earlier during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many businesses in the amusement and recreation subsector that were hit hard by pandemic-related closures and capacity restrictions were able to resume their usual operations for the majority of 2022. That year, the subsector’s operating revenue grew significantly, up 35.5%. After two years of periodic lockdowns, demand for amusement and recreation-related activities was high, which drove some industries to exceed their pre-pandemic levels.

New data on confidence in Canadian institutions

A new infographic released today focuses on confidence in selected institutions in Canada including the Canadian media, the Federal Parliament, the justice system and courts, the school system, and the police, as reported in the Canadian Social Survey collected from October to December 2022. The infographic displays data for the population aged 15 years and older who live in Canada’s 10 provinces, showing results for the survey question “How much confidence do you have in the following institutions?”. Confidence in institutions is an indicator in Canada’s Quality of Life Framework.

New motor vehicle sales data for Canada and the provinces are now available for September. The New Motor Vehicle Sales Survey collects data on monthly sales (in dollars and units) of new motor vehicles in Canada by type of vehicle and by country or region of manufacture.
