Job vacancies, fourth quarter 2021

In the fourth quarter of 2021, the number of job vacancies in Canada peaked at 915,500, little changed from the third quarter (912,600). Record-high job vacancies in the fourth quarter coincided with almost full recovery of payroll employment and falling unemployment.

Canada’s population estimates and dependency ratio: Health regions and peer groups, July 1, 2021

Demographics estimates and dependency ratios by health region and peer groups on July 1, 2021 are now available. Health regions represent administrative areas for health service delivery within a province or territory. Health regions have been grouped into “peer groups” to allow for comparisons of health regions with similar demographic and socioeconomic characteristics.

Public and private spending on elementary and secondary schools, 2019/2020

For the first time in 17 years, total expenditures for elementary and secondary education declined (-1.4%) in 2019/2020 to $78.9 billion. The majority of this spending (94.7%, or $74.7 billion) was directed to public education. Although spending declined across all major categories in public schools, the decrease was mainly attributable to lower spending on instruction and educational services in Ontario and Alberta.

Business ownership by gender: Updates to data table on counts of private enterprises by ownership gender, age group, province or region, and enterprise size

Statistics Canada has released updated data on business ownership by gender up to 2018. These data are based on the Canadian Employer-Employee Dynamics Database and include businesses for which gender of ownership, age of ownership, and province in which the enterprise is located can be defined. The tables are funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada.
