Canada’s international investment position, third quarter 2023
Canada’s net foreign asset position edged up by $5.5 billion and reached $1,382.4 billion at the end of the third quarter, following three consecutive quarters of substantial increases.
Specialized design services, 2022
Specialized design services grew strongly in 2022, after a full rebound from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic the year before. Bolstered once again by solid demand for interior design services, operating revenue for the industry group increased by 11.9% to $4.3 billion in 2022.
Survey on COVID-19 and Mental Health, February to May 2023
Findings released today from the third cycle of the Survey on COVID-19 and Mental Health (SCMH) show that as the global health emergency associated with COVID-19 came to an end, some improvements in mental health were observed. The proportion of adults in Canada who reported excellent or very good mental health, a strong sense of belonging to their community, and high ratings of overall life satisfaction were all significantly higher in February to May 2023, compared with two years earlier at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, symptoms of depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) remained unchanged.
Maple products, 2023
Canadian maple producers harvested 10.4 million gallons of maple syrup in 2023, down 40.1% from the record-high production in 2022. Production fell in all maple-producing provinces, largely due to unfavourable weather, such as severe storms and temperature fluctuations, leading to lower yields in 2023.
