Quarterly financial statistics for enterprises, second quarter 2020
Canadian corporations reported a decline of 8.0% in net income before taxes in the second quarter, a decrease of $4.5 billion, to $52.3 billion. The second quarter marked the first full quarter of COVID-19-related restrictions which impacted Canadian enterprises.
Half of recent postsecondary graduates had student debt prior to the pandemic
Using data from the last four cycles of the National Graduates Survey, this study examines changes in the proportion of students with student debt over time, as well as the median amount of debt at graduation.
Older Canadians and university graduates likeliest to get tested for COVID-19 and vaccinated
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, various public health strategies related to testing and vaccination have been considered to reduce the spread of the virus and facilitate the reopening of the economy and a return to normal activities. Knowledge of Canadians’ attitudes toward COVID-19 testing and vaccination is useful for informing the decisions of policy makers and public health officials about these strategies.
Food services and drinking places, June 2020
Sales in the food services and drinking places subsector rose by 26.8% (seasonally adjusted) to $3.9 billion from May 2020 to June 2020. This was the second consecutive monthly increase. With most businesses across the country having reopened under new rules and restrictions, higher sales were reported across all industry groups and in all provinces and territories. When data for June 2020 are compared with data for June 2019, unadjusted sales were down by over one-third (-37.1%).
Oilseed crushing statistics, July 2020
Oilseed processors crushed 806 868 tonnes of canola in July. Oil production totalled 355 098 tonnes, while meal production totalled 448 268 tonnes.
Milled wheat and wheat flour produced, July 2020
Millers milled 269 080 tonnes of wheat in July, while wheat flour production totalled 203 636 tonnes.
