Monthly Survey of Manufacturing, August 2021
Manufacturing sales rose 0.5% to $60.3 billion in August on higher sales of petroleum and coal, chemicals and primary metals.
Provisional death counts and excess mortality, January 2020 to July 2021
COVID-19 claimed the lives of 6,940 Canadians between mid-January 2021 and the beginning of July 2021. Significant excess mortality was not observed nationally during this time. However, some provinces experienced periods of excess mortality, generally coinciding with a higher number of deaths attributable to COVID-19 over the same period.
Elementary–Secondary Education Survey, 2019/2020
Over 5.7 million students in Canada were enrolled in elementary and secondary school programs in 2019/2020. These students were attending public schools, private/independent schools, or were home-schooled.
Employment services, 2020
The employment services industry in Canada was negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The operating revenue for the employment services industry group fell 7.5% to $15.8 billion in 2020. To curb the spread of the virus, several public health measures were implemented, such as mandating non-essential businesses to close. This had an impact on labour markets. Employers slowed hiring and furloughed staff, while employees were hesitant to change careers or fields. When public health restrictions loosened in late spring 2020, the labour market started to recover.
