Quarterly financial statistics for enterprises, third quarter 2023
Canadian corporations reported a 4.7% increase (+$7.2 billion) in net income before tax (NIBT) to reach $160.3 billion in the third quarter, driven by the financial sector (+6.7%). The non-financial sector (+4.0%) also contributed to the increase in NIBT.
Employment Insurance Coverage Survey, 2022
In 2022, about 1.0 million Canadians were unemployed at any point during the year. Of these, 59.2% (604,000) had contributed to the Employment Insurance (EI) program. This rate, known as the EI contribution rate, was down from an average of 62.8% over the period from 2017 to 2019.
Travel between Canada and other countries, September 2023
In September, the number of non-resident visitors to Canada accounted for 90.9% of the number observed in September 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the number of returning Canadian residents reached 85.5% of the level recorded in September 2019.
Wholesale trade: Early indicator, October 2023
Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector for October. The advance results for October indicate that wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, other hydrocarbons and oilseed and grain) fell 1.1%. The decrease reflects lower sales in the machinery, equipment and supplies and the motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and accessories subsectors.
Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohort, 2016
The Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohorts (CanCHECs) are population-based probabilistically linked datasets that can be used to examine health outcomes by population characteristics. The 2016 CanCHEC released today combines long-form respondents to the 2016 Census of Population with new administrative health data (e.g., mortality, hospitalizations, ambulatory care and mental health).
