Payroll employment, earnings and hours, and job vacancies, March 2023
The number of employees receiving pay or benefits from their employer—measured as “payroll employees” in the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours—was little changed in March (-9,900).
Farm income, 2022
In 2022, realized net income for Canadian farmers fell 9.5% to $12.5 billion, as growth in expenses outpaced the rise in farm cash receipts. This decrease followed a 50.8% gain in 2021 and a 79.1% increase in 2020. Excluding cannabis, realized net income in 2022 was down 8.3% to $12.7 billion.
Farm cash receipts, January to March 2023
Farm cash receipts for Canadian farmers totalled $27.2 billion in the first quarter, up $3.7 billion (+15.9%) from the same quarter in 2022. Crop (+$4.5 billion) and livestock (+$796.2 million) receipts increased in the first quarter of 2023, while program payments fell by $1.5 billion compared with the same quarter a year earlier.
Monthly civil aviation statistics, March 2023
Major Canadian airlines carried 6.8 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in March, up 59.3% from the same month in 2022, but 12.1% below the March 2019 level, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aircraft movement statistics: Major and select small airports, March 2023
In March, aircraft movements at Canada’s major and select small airports totalled 445,452, up 13.0% from March 2022 but 15.5% lower than March 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Flash estimate, April 2023
Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for April. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales declined 0.2% in April. The largest decreases were in the food and primary metal industries.
