Securities statistics, first quarter 2022

Canadian governments and corporations borrowed a net $83.6 billion in the form of debt securities in the first quarter of 2022. This marked the fourth consecutive quarter for which new issues exceeded retirements. The borrowing activity in the quarter was led by Canadian chartered banks and, to a lesser extent, by non-financial corporations.

Trafficking in persons in Canada, 2020

From 2010 to 2020, there were nearly 3,000 incidents of human trafficking reported by Canadian police services, almost all of which involved young women and girls as victims. Where an accused person was identified, 8 in 10 were men and three-quarters of accused were previously known to police.

Quality of life indicators from the Canadian Social Survey, first quarter 2022

Quarterly data for six quality of life indicators have been updated using the latest available iteration of the Canadian Social Survey, collected from January 28 to March 13, 2022. These indicators, which are part of the Quality of Life Framework for Canada, include: life satisfaction, sense of meaning and purpose, future outlook, loneliness, someone to count on, and sense of belonging to local community.

Provisional death counts and excess mortality, January 2020 to March 2022

The emergence of COVID-19 variants of concern and the community response to shifting public health measures continue to influence the course of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada and worldwide.
