Supply chain and price pressures have been easing for Canadian businesses since the first quarter of 2022. Meanwhile, the outlook of businesses is relatively unchanged in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared with the previous quarter.

Deaths, 2022
There were 334,623 deaths in Canada in 2022, an increase of 7.3% from 2021. This increase was noted across all provinces and territories, except Nunavut. For the third year in a row, Canadians’ life expectancy at birth fell, from 81.6 years in 2021 to 81.3 years in 2022.

Screened passenger traffic at Canadian airports, October 2023
In October, 4.6 million passengers passed through pre-board security screening at checkpoints operated at Canada’s eight largest airports. This was an increase of 14.6% from October 2022 and of 1.6% from the same month in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Millers milled 287 297 tonnes of wheat in October, while wheat flour production totalled 214 713 tonnes.
Oilseed crushing statistics, October 2023
Oilseed processors crushed 974 376 tonnes of canola in October. Oil production totalled 411 664 tonnes, while meal production totalled 566 098 tonnes.
