High-income Canadians and capital gains, 2021
Incomes of the top 1% of tax filers rose 9.4% to $579,100 in 2021. This occurred in the context of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions easing, many government benefit programs winding down, the labour market recovering, and the Canadian house prices and stock market indexes increasing in 2021.
Canadian Social Survey – Quality of Life, Virtual Health Care and Trust, 2023
In 2023, the majority of Canadians reported a high level of satisfaction and trust in their personal relationships. On the other hand, they reported some distrust with information and news from the media, particularly from non-traditional sources, such as the Internet and social media.
Energy statistics, August 2023
In August, primary energy production decreased in two of the six subsectors, resulting in a 1.4% year-over-year decline. Coal production (-37.5%) and primary electricity generation (-15.1%) were responsible for the drop. Meanwhile, secondary energy production saw a year-over-year increase of 4.2% in August, mainly due to a 4.2% rise in refined petroleum products.
Annual international trade in services, 2022
Canada’s exports and imports of services both increased in 2022, led by the strength of the recovery in international travel. Exports of services totalled $173.0 billion in 2022, a 16.1% gain from 2021, while imports of services into Canada reached $189.0 billion (+25.0%).

Stocks of frozen and chilled meats in cold storage facilities totalled 124 282 tonnes as of October 1, 2023, down 1.5% compared with July 1, 2023. This also represents a decrease of 10.6% from October 1, 2022.
