Building permits, October 2025
In October, the total value of building permits issued in Canada rose $1.8 billion (+14.9%) to $13.8 billion.
Wholesale trade, October 2025
Sales by Canadian wholesalers (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and oilseed and grain) rose 0.1% to $86.0 billion in October.
New motor vehicle sales, October 2025
In October, 163,490 new motor vehicles were sold in Canada, a decrease of 0.7% from October 2024. In dollar terms, sales decreased 2.3% compared with one year earlier. Over the same period, sales of new passenger cars fell by 13.4%, while sales of new trucks increased slightly by 1.1%.
Industrial capacity utilization rates, third quarter 2025
Canadian industries operated at 78.5% of their production capacity in the third quarter. This is an increase from 77.6% in the second quarter, which was revised downward by 1.7 percentage points.
Small and medium-sized businesses in rural and small town Canada, 2023
Rural and small town Canada was home to 329,651 small businesses in 2023, accounting for 14.2% of all small businesses nationally. Nearly 2.0 million (85.8%) small businesses operated in functional urban areas. Among medium-sized businesses, 10,126 (13.3%) were based in rural and small town areas, compared with 66,174 (86.7%) in functional urban areas.
Provisional poverty estimates, 2024
Canada’s national poverty rate for 2024 is projected to be 10.9%, unchanged compared with the official national poverty rate in 2023. This projection is in line with other economic indicators currently available for 2024. For example, although disposable income in 2024 for the lowest-income households (+3.6%) had relatively weak growth compared with a year earlier, it still kept pace with overall annual inflationary pressures (+2.4%) experienced over the same period.
Infrastructure economic account, 2024
With today’s release, estimates for investment, stock, remaining useful service life, as well as economic impacts have been updated for 2022, 2023 and 2024. These estimates are consistent with the third quarter of 2025 release of the Income and Expenditure accounts on November 28, 2025. The estimates for the environmental impacts have been updated for 2022 to 2024.
Population in core housing need
Today, Statistics Canada is releasing an update to the table Population in core housing need by selected sociocultural characteristics, economic family structure and gender. This update provides statistics to inform the indicator “Fewer vulnerable individuals lacking stable, safe and permanent housing” in the Poverty reduction, health and well-being pillar of the Gender Results Framework. The updated table provides detailed 2021 Census results on core housing need and is available through the Gender, Diversity and Inclusion Statistics Hub.

Preliminary data from the Canadian Vital Statistics – Stillbirth database for the 2024 reference year, as well as new and updated data covering years 2017 to 2023 are now available.
