Territorial Client and Family Engagement Plan

Press Release

10 January 2023

The Department of Health is developing a Territorial Client and Family Engagement Plan to offer community members an opportunity to provide input and feedback on healthcare services in Nunavut.

This spring, the Department of Health will hold public consultations in several Nunavut communities to gather input and feedback from Inuit organizations, Elders, hamlets, community members, healthcare providers and leaders.

Client engagement is when clients, families, and health care professionals actively work together to improve health care quality. It involves building long-lasting, respectful relationships where knowledge and experiences in the healthcare system are welcome. When clients and families participate in discussions about healthcare improvement, it can result in a better care experience and better health outcomes.

Engagement is a way to action the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles of Aajiqatigiinniq (decision-making through discussions and consensus), Piliriqatigiinniq (working together for a common cause) and Qanuqtuurniq (being innovative and resourceful in seeking solutions).

The Department of Health is committed to bringing the voice of Nunavummiut into the planning and delivery of health services across the territory. Community involvement is important to this process. Watch for further details on how you can provide your feedback.
