Could you live on $1.75 a day? We invite you to Live Below the Line with ONEXONE.
Live Below the Line challenges participants to live below the global poverty line by spending no more than $1.75 per day for all food and drink for 5 days. By participating you’ll have a lived experience that will change your perspectives of poverty, and by sharing your experience you’ll help raise money for a cause you believe in.
According to the World Bank, 1.2 billion people, about 20% of the world’s population, live in extreme poverty. The World Bank defines extreme poverty as living on less than $1.75 a day for food and drink, as well as housing, education, health, and all the other necessities most of us take for granted.
Because ONEXONE shares Live Below the Line’s commitment to ending extreme poverty and changing the way Canadians think about food insecurity, we have become one of the 11 official charity partners for the 2015 challenge.
Presently, 13% of Canadians, about 4 million people, including 1.15 million children experience food insecurity, and a disproportionate amount of those who experience food insecurity (27%) identify as First Nations. For that reason, 80% of the schools we deliver our First Nations School Breakfast Program to are in Canada’s most remote locations, where access to healthy food is a challenge.
From April 27 to May 1, ONEXONE’s founder Joey Adler will be taking the Live Below the Line challenge alongside many of our supporters. We’re asking you to help raise awareness and funds to help fight global poverty.
There are a few ways you can help our campaign. The first is by signing up and joining ONEXONE’s team, who will be joining Joey in the challenge, and agreeing to eat for $1.75 a day, raising funds for ONEXONE in the process. Or, if you can’t take part yourself, please join us by making a donation to our campaign here and by helping us spread the word on social media! Sign-up for our newsletter and receive updates on our progress during the Live Below the Line challenge.
