Call for immediate and long-term solutions to address crisis in Kashechewan

We Demand Clean Water for Kashechewan Now Statement from Mushkegowuk Council Chiefs & Executive Office An immediate solution —in parallel with the implementation of sustainable, long-term infrastructure—is needed to repatriate our Kashechewan families to their homeland.

The municipalities within the boundaries of Treaty 9 continue to enjoy the water flowing through treaty land. They can drink it without danger or hazard because of gen erous government support for clean water infrastructure.

This government support comes from the wealth accumulated through the development of treaty land, yet the distribution of this wealth falls extremely short of what was committed to in the treaty.

Indigenous Services Canada’s absence in water treatment support is a betrayal of the treaty and a dereliction of basic humanitarian duty. Minister Mandy Gull-Masty, your failed presence affirms your complicity in this betrayal.

To our displaced Kashechewan brothers and sisters: we miss you, and we are doing everything within our power to assist in your return home. We call upon all levels of government to act now and support us in bringing these powerful stewards of the land home.
