Press Release
Current numbers
Last night, we learned of 11 new cases of COVID-19 since our update last Thursday; 8 have been lab-confirmed, and 3 are epi-linked. This brings our total number of members who have tested positive to 37.
We have not yet received updated numbers for today.
20 of these cases have now been cleared by public health officials following their self-isolation periods and are no longer considered infectious; 17 cases remain active.
The “Second Ripple” of COVID-19 in BC
On Tuesday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 429 new cases of COVID-19 over a four-day period, bringing the total to 6,591.
She refers to this recent increase in cases as the “second ripple” of COVID-19 in BC.
Dr. Henry also reiterated that all B.C. residents should be beginning to limit social interactions as the fall approaches, reining in their bubbles to five or six people.
Needs Assessment Survey
We are in the process of developing another COVID-19 Needs Assessment Survey to understand how we can best meet the evolving needs of our members.
The survey will be administered online, but we will also be providing a telephone number that members can call into during regular business hours to complete the survey over the phone if desired.
Stay tuned for more information coming soon via Facebook, email, and the website.
Member email list
If you know a Nation member who would like to be added to this list, please ask them to send us an email at communications@squamish.net.
Daily updates posted to website
As many of you know, we created a dedicated page on the Squamish Nation website for COVID-19 updates right when the pandemic was first declared back in March. We have been regularly adding updates and resources to that page over the last 5-6 months.
Since the virus reached our communities, we have been publishing daily updates to that page. These are the same updates we have been delivering via Facebook live and email.
Please help spread the word and keep all community members informed. Visit www.squamish.net/covid-19
Your daily reminder to maintain social distance, wash your hands, don’t touch your face, and wear a mask in public or where you cannot maintain a safe distance.
As we’ve said before, we need to continue to be diligent as a Nation, and as a community. Stick with your small bubble, and limit any interactions with those outside your bubble to a minimum of 2 metres/6 feet away, and preferably outdoors.
Please do your part in helping us flatten the curve in our community by keeping your bubble very small, washing your hands frequently, not touching your face, and maintaining 2 m/6ft of social distance from anyone outside of your bubble.
A reminder that are here for any Nation members who are self-isolating due to COVID-19. If you need any sort of support, call Member Services at 604-982-7610, or after-hours at 604-505-3776. We do not receive names of confirmed cases, so we need those impacted to reach out and let us know so we can assist.
Again, we really want to recognize the efforts of our members to protect our community from the spread of this virus. These are challenging times, but your commitment to flattening the curve truly does make a world of difference.
“Remember to have compassion, remember to have respect, for those individuals and families that are going through it. As a community, we will get through this together.”
