Squamish Nation: COVID-19 Community Update

Press Release

Current numbers

We haven’t received any updates from FNHA yet today. As of our last update Thursday evening, we had confirmation of 38 cases in total, with 27 of those cleared from isolation by public health at that time.

If we receive an update later this evening, we will add it as a comment on the Facebook Live feed.

Though we don’t have confirmation of numbers today, I again want to recognize our peoples’ efforts to flatten the curve in our communities. The actions and decisions of each and every one of you make each day have an impact. Let’s all continue making good choices and following the public health protocols.

COVID-19 Needs Assessment Survey
We have just launched another COVID-19 Needs Assessment Survey today for the purpose of identifying current COVID-19-related needs in our community.

CLICK HERE TO ACCESS THE SURVEY << You can also find it at www.squamish.net/covid-19

It should take no more than five minutes to complete.

This survey will be open until next Monday, September 21. Please help spread the word! We hope to have one representative from each household complete the survey.

If members require support or wish to complete the survey by telephone, please call 604-362-4558 during regular business hours.

Masks & Gloves Available
We have received some large donations of masks and gloves for distribution to members, both on the North Shore (and surrounding areas) and in the Squamish Valley.

Both fabric and disposable masks are available, as well as disposable gloves.

If you or any members of your household need masks or gloves, please call 604-982-7610 to request these items.

Please note that these items are not restricted to households who are self-isolating. Masks and gloves will be distributed upon request to all members who need them.

Letter of Support from Lil’wat Nation
“To Our Relatives,

Lil’wat Nation stands with the Squamish Nation in their struggle with COVID19. Lil’wat Nation has many citizens that live or work within the traditional territory of the Squamish Nation and our communities are intertwined through the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre. We have watched your situation unfold and acknowledge that this type of community outbreak could happen anywhere.

We appreciate and are impressed by your leadership with your on-going communication with community and wish you a swift end to your outbreak.

On behalf of the Lil’wat Nation Chiefs and Council

Kukwpi7 Skalulmecw
Chief Dean Nelson”

Public Health Measures
Again, let’s keep up the great work by continuing to:
• Keep your bubble small
• Maintain 2m/6ft distance between you and anyone outside your bubble
• Wear a mask anywhere that social distancing may be a challenge
• Wash your hands frequently
• Don’t touch your face
And, with the extremely poor air quality we’re facing right now due to the wildfires, it’s recommended that we all stay inside as much as possible, and keep your windows and doors closed to keep the smoke out.

Reminder re: Isolation Supports through Member Services
If you are self-isolating due to COVID-19, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our Member Services team is providing a wide range of assistance to meet the needs of those in isolation.

Call 604-982-7610 during business hours, or 604-505-3776 after hours.
