Squamish Nation – Ceremony and Community Announcement re: St. Paul’s Indian Residential School

Our community is on a healing journey, one that is supported and sustained by our Sḵwx̱wú7mesh culture and traditional protocols.

Ta na wa Yúus ta Stitúyntsam̓ (Rights & Title) has been preparing to undertake work regarding the former St. Paul’s Indian Residential School site.

As we prepare to move forward on this important and difficult journey, Nexwsxwníw̓ ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) invites community and our residential school survivors to attend a sacred ceremony on Monday, August 9, at 6:00 pm. Salish Wesley will be running skw’enílach boards to brush off survivors and community members.

We respectfully note that this is a private ceremony for the Squamish Nation community and guests only. More information will be shared with the public on Tuesday.

Date: Monday, August 9
Time: Ceremony begins at 6:00 pm. Dinner will follow at 7:30 pm.
Location: Chief Joe Mathias Centre (100 Lower Capilano Road)
Venue Capacity: 350 people

Transportation
Transportation from North Vancouver and Squamish Valley is available. Members arriving separately should arrive at CJMC no earlier than 5:30 pm.

Squamish Valley Transportation

Limited transportation will be available for Members travelling from the Squamish Valley. Please contact Totem Hall Reception at 604-892-5166 to sign up for transportation.

COVID-19 Safety

COVID safety measures will be in place for this indoor community event. Mask wearing is encouraged and attendees will be asked to provide details for contact tracing. In order to accommodate physical distancing requirements, the venue capacity limit is 350 people.
