The Healthy Aboriginal Network
Non-profit promotion of health, literacy & wellness
I hope that you are enjoying the last couple weeks of summer. We are starting to gear up over here. We are releasing four comic books this fall and winter on smoking cessation, sexual health, youth in care and living with FASD.Smoking cessation resource page
As with all of our books, the rear outside cover contains resource information for youth – typically online but some national phone numbers as well. If you have any resources that youth can take advantage of, please consider emailing them to me at sean[at]thehealthyaboriginal.net by August 20th.
Comics can improve literacy rates
The Canadian Council on Learning released an article that bolsters what we’ve been talking about for years – that any type of reading is good and boys are particularly attracted to comic books because of the visuals. You can find the article at www.ccl-cca.ca.
Mental health books in stock
We still have copies of Just a Story and Darkness Calls in stock. Still no word on when we will be reprinting our gang prevention comic book, Path of the Warrior. Low res copies can be previewed for free at www.thehealthyaboriginal.net.
We appreciate your time. Please feel free to pass on this email to others that may be interested in health literacy.
