Sipekne’katik First Nation declares state of emergency over crisis with drugs, addictions – CTV News

The Sipekne’katik First Nation in Nova Scotia has declared a state of emergency over the “escalating crisis” with illicit drugs and addictions in the community.

In a written statement, Sipekne’katik said its chief and council moved to start the process of declaring a state of emergency on Sunday. They will be enforcing Housing Policy section 14.15, which they say protects community safety.

“Enforcement includes situations where reasonable suspicion exists that housing units are being used for the sale, distribution, or facilitation of illicit drugs,” the statement reads. “Violations of this policy will lead to eviction.
