Signing of a solidarity agreement between Quebec Native Women (QNW) and the Quebec Coalition of Sexual Assault Centers (RQCALACS): A strategic partnership for a united future

Press Release

Kahnawake-Montreal, December 17, 2024 – In a spirit of mutual support, Quebec Native Women (QNW) and the Quebec Coalition of Sexual Assault Centers (RQCALACS) announce the signing of their first solidarity agreement at the conclusion of the “Our Body, Our Land” campaign, held throughout the 12 Days to End Violence Against Women.

Aiming to sustain the collaboration between the two organizations and strengthen their joint actions in the fight against sexual violence, this agreement marks the beginning of lasting solidarity, rooted in feminist, intersectional, and social justice values.

“This is a strong symbol of our unity, our common determination to denounce and combat violence in all its forms, particularly sexual violence, which is unfortunately still too prevalent today, especially against Indigenous women. In a world where systemic racism and discrimination are present, allies who support our cause are invaluable,” says Marjolaine Étienne, President of Quebec Native Women.

Quebec Native Women and the Quebec Coalition of Sexual Assault Centers work daily for a more just and equal society, as well as for the protection and advancement of the rights of victims and survivors.

From the RQCALACS side, Annie Girard, a board member, is delighted with the signing of this agreement: “By joining forces, we prove that change is possible, that justice is achievable, and that the voices of women, too often silenced, deserve to be fully heard.”

This solidarity agreement also embodies a true political alliance in the fight against gender-based violence in Quebec, particularly those committed against Indigenous women. By uniting, the two organizations strengthen their ability to take their place in public policies, raise awareness among institutional actors, and advocate for lasting legislative and social changes that will benefit society as a whole.
